Restaurant Lease Opportunity at The Granary Building, Buitenkant Street, Cape Town

RESTAURANT LEASE OPPORTUNITY AT THE GRANARY BUILDING, BUITENKANT STREET, CAPE TOWN

31 JANUARY 2019

Background

The Property Transaction Management Branch of the City of Cape Town’s Property Management Department, appointed a professional team for the planning and overseeing of the rehabilitation and restoration of the The Granary Building, Buitenkant Street, Cape Town. The restoration of the building has been completed.

The Desmond and Leah Tutu Legacy Foundation leases a portion of the building and the remaining spaces will be occupied by City of Cape Town line departments, a museum and restaurant space (the latter is the subject of this email).

The restaurant space opens onto a pedestrianised portion of Longmarket Street between Harrington and Buitenkant Streets. This will have a demarcated area as a spill out space for the restaurant.

The restaurant space has been left in its original state with unpainted walls and exposed timber ceiling, which serves as the floor above. Some stonework is still evident which are the remains of what is thought to be an old garden boundary wall dating from the mid-1800’s. Internal fit-out will need approvals by Heritage Western Cape (HWC) as the building has been declared a Provincial Heritage Site (PHS).

Proposal

The Property Management Department, will be advertising a tender for the lease of this restaurant space at The Granary Building, Buitenkant Street, Cape Town.

We intend to publish the advert in the middle of January 2019.

We wish to enquire whether you, as the Restaurant Association of South Africa, would be able to circulate the advert for this opportunity to your list of tourism operators and/or experienced restaurant operators?  This will assist us with reaching as many potential tenderers as possible.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards,
