SENHOR PERI-PERI
13 JUNE 2019
Calling all food fundis, hangry citizens and friends: If you’re a chicken, seafood, meat lover, vegetarian or just hungry and curious, Senhor Peri-Peri is just for you.
After launching on the shores of Kwa-Zulu Natal, Senhor Peri Peri brings its love for family and love for food to Johannesburg with the opening of its second eatery.
Nestled in the heart of Johannesburg South at the Comaro View Shopping Centre, Senhor Peri Peri offers Joburgers a modern twist on Portuguese cuisine.
Senhor Peri Peri’s unique take on well-loved favourites is what’s sure to have me coming back for more! From the sought-after Peri Peri Chicken to the succulent Mozambican style-prawns, to big gourmet burgers like the Holy Guacamole, and hearty Beef Prego, there’s something for everyone in the family to enjoy.
Founder and inspiration Jorge Calisto was born in a small northern town in Portugal but spent most of his life in the South of Joburg and it would only be fitting that the first store launched in Joburg would be in his hometown.
His love for experimentation led him to create a table Peri Peri sauce made with the famous Bird’s Eye Chilli. Next, came a full range of traditional sugar-free sauces made in a variety of flavours: Lemon & Herb, Medium, Mild, Hot and for the not-faint at heart, X-Hot.
Jorge’s love for food and travel lead to his exploration of the colourful and vibrant country of Mozambique, where he fell in love with the culture, fresh cuisine and striking colours. The new Senhor Peri Peri eatery pays tribute to Mozambique, with pops of colour throughout the eatery. Neutral features such as the cork and circular wooden, light-fittings complement the brightly detailed wall mural, which encapsulates the authenticity, warmth and personality of the eatery.
Senhor Peri Peri eatery, which known for staying true to its roots in Durban, is the brainchild of Jorge Calisto and the Fournews Group, industry leaders with over 23 years’ experience. Senhor Peri Peri is well-loved for a number of reasons, including their Portuguese cuisine with a modern twist and their family-friendly dining environment. I’d be lying if I said that their meals aren’t loved at first bite.
“We are extremely excited about the launch of Senhor Peri Peri in Johannesburg,” says brand manager, Varina Singh. “We think our concept of the modern Portuguese eatery will bring a unique and flavoursome experience to Johannesburg,” Singh adds.
If you’re famished, but rolling solo, be sure to try items under their “Peri-fect for One” section. Here you’ll find the Senhor Healthy Meal with grilled chicken breast, a Portuguese side salad and grilled mielie. There are also some good old chicken strips with spicy rice, mild creamy livers and pap – where you can swap your papa for a Portuguese roll if you’re avoiding the it is.
