INDUSTRY UPDATES
24 JUNE 2019
SECTORIAL EMPLOYEMENT EQUITY TARGETS
Industry met with the Department of Labor (DoL) on Tuesday, 18 June 2019 to consult on the proposed employment equity targets.
DoL advised that the plan is to be tabulated to parliament by July with the hope that the bill will be promulgated by December 2019.
The minister will set 5-year targets and organizations will be measured against these targets through annual EE submissions. Annual progression is at individual organization discretion; however, these must progress to achieving the departmental 5-year targets.
The EEOnline system used for submitting employment equity reports is being updated to generate certificate of compliance or non-compliance upon submission.
- Member Companies are requested to analyze proposed targets internally based on employment equity reports previously submitted and report on what targets would be suitable for industry.
- Organizations are to probe opportunities that were reported on EER which have resulted in a higher % of white males recruited for those positions.
Industry requested DoL to segment data to be company specific and by context of retail e.g. apparel, and food & apparel.
DoL will schedule a follow up meeting for industry to present its proposed employment equity targets.
Members are invited to join CGCSA to workshop the proposed targets to prepare for further engagements with DoL.
Date: 3 July 2019
Venue: CGCSA Offices, Hurlingham Office Park, 69 Woodlands Avenue, Hurlingham Manor
